I had a file which contained double strings, e.g.

berberberber
php3php3
mysqlmysql

and i needed only the first half of each line. Here is how to do it :

<?
$f=file("MyFile"); // Source file with strings
$num=count($f);
$o=fopen("MyNewFile","w"); //Destination file
for($i=0 ; $i < $num ; $i++) {
$l=strlen($f[$i]);
$halfstr=substr($f[$i],0,$l/2);
fputs($o,$halfstr."\n",1024);
}
fclose($o);
?>
