I came across a situation where I needed to retrieve numbers from within a string
that consisted of both alpha and numberical characters. To do this I applied this
simple script utilizing the ereg()
function:

<?
if(ereg ("([0-9]+)", $highway_result[0], $numbers)) {
print("$numbers[0]");
}
?>
