Safemode primarily does two things. First, it affects all file related
functions and tries to make sure that a file to be opened is either owned
by the same user id that owns the PHP script doing the opening, or the
directory in which the file to be opened lives is owned by the owner of
the PHP script. And second, it affects the exec-like commands by only
allowing them to execute commands located in a pre-defined directory.
This allows an admin to give limited access to certain external scripts. |
