Introduction
Windows User's: how would you like to have your Apache HTTP server up and running, complete with SSL security, without the guesswork of which modules to download? Well, in this article I'll show you how to configure your web server to run SSL as a service right along side Apache.
The OpenSa HTTP server is a modified version of Apache's popular HTTP server, but this one comes loaded with SSL and various other modules to help simplify the installation of additional add-on modules, not included with the original Apache package.
Before we begin, if you have an existing version of Apache installed, then make sure you save the httpd.conf file and then uninstall it. You will not need your installed version if you plan to run the OpenSa version of Apache. If this is your first time installing Apache, then sit tight and I'll show you how to do it in a step-by-step format so that you'll get it right the first time.
For this article I'm going to be showing you how to set up your web server on Windows 2000. The instructions are the same for XP, 2000 Server & 2000 Advanced Server, as well as Data Center and Windows 98 users.
